RECENT: Brazen Hodgepodge: A Sketch Comedy Show

I recently directed the fourth run of Brazen Hodgepodge at the Canal Café Theatre, which ran during September 2023.

"Combining undiscussed talent with exquisite entertainment, this all-you-can-eat of comedy has plenty to offer for everyone [...] this show, directed by Dylan Allcock, is fifty minutes of boisterous joy that fly by in a jiffy!"

- EverythingTheatre

"Brazen Hodgepodge is the epitome of social media style sketch comedy. Quick, entertaining, engaging and easy to understand"

RatedReviewed

"Very talented performers that wouldn’t look out of place on TV"

- LondonPubTheatres

I directed the ★★★★ "absurd", "goofy" political comedy Crumbleflan: LIVE! at the Lion & Unicorn Theatre on October 16th 2022 with regular collaborators The Micawber Theatre Company. View the gallery below:

I have been an active comedy director for over half a decade, having previously assisted on The Adventures of Isaac Saddlesore and the Witches of Drenn (Electric Theatre, Guildford), NewsRevue (2020) and The Curse of Nebet (2020, Online), as well as Producing and assisting on the ★★★★ reviewed Scrooge & Company at the Canal Café Theatre.

This experience, combined with my work on four previous iterations of NewsRevue over a two-year period, led to me being asked to direct the August/September 2021 'Revue. This run would be the first regular run since NewsRevue was forced to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic; the first closure in its 40+ year history.

I was tasked with assembling a superb team of NewsRevue fresh faces, made up of the excellent Clare Noy (The Play That Goes Wrong), Laura Beth-Mortemore, Sam Gibbons, Sam Pote and Musical Directors James Hall and Richard Baker (Peter Pan Goes Wrong, Mischief Movie Night). Together, we assembled a "depression busting", madcap iteration of the much-loved musical comedy show, which earnt the NewsRevue brand a fresh ★★★★★ review to add to its collection - "It’s back! Acutely observed and performed with relish" - "Newcomers and regulars alike are not disappointed!" - (London Pub Theatres Magazine).

In addition to my comedy work, I am also an experienced director of drama, particularly that which explores themes of social justice, working class communities, and the North-South divide. Indeed, I most recently Directed Pole to Pole - an excerpt from my latest play - as part of the Actor Awareness "Working Class" night at the Old Courts, Wigan in February 2022. I also continue to work on my first full-length play, Two Steps From Hell, the R&D of which I assistant directed at the Dance Attic in November 2020.

Beyond theatre work, I am a regular acting coach and tutor, as well as being a freelance producer/coach of drama and commercial Voicereels from my home studio in London. Find out more about my Voicereels on the Voicereels Page.

If you would like to contact me regarding a Voicereel, tutoring or indeed regarding directing your next project, then please do contact me at dylanjallcock@hotmail.co.uk or via my socials:

I am always on the look out for new writing, comedy and audio drama to get my teeth into, and now have a number of years' experience to call upon. Please see the trailers (left) to give you a flavour of the style of my work.

★★★★★

"I can hand on heart say that the standard is always high but on this particular night there is something extra special about this cast and the material brought together by director Dylan Allcock"

- Heather Jeffrey, Editor at London Pub Theatres Magazine (for NewsRevue, 2021)

★★★★

"Very often the directors are familiar faces, who turn up in other theatres or who are regulars at this show. On this occasion it’s Matt Strachan and Dylan Allcock giving their immaculate best as usual."

- Heather Jeffrey, Editor at London Pub Theatres Magazine (for NewsRevue, 2022)
